1. What are the causes of miasma malaria

It is mainly caused by exposure to mountain miasma and damp-heat toxicity. 'The Treatise on the Origins of Various Diseases · Malaria': 'This disease originates in the south of the Five Ridges, with mountain miasma, characterized by chills and fever, with intermittent attacks, all due to the damp and toxic qi from mountain streams and ridges.' 'Malaria Manual' Volume 1: 'The symptoms of miasma malaria have three types, and the symptoms are mainly headache, fever, heavy lower back, weak legs, or cold, or vomiting, or diarrhea, or constipation, or red urine, red face, red eyes, thirst, restlessness, severe heat in the chest, black tongue, delirium, desire for water, desire to sit in water, or hematemesis, epistaxis, abdominal pain, or sweating, or no sweating, and various symptoms.' There are cold miasma, hot miasma, and dumb miasma.

2. What complications can malaria cause

The disease is caused by miasma, mainly due to heat and humidity. The pores are not dense, leading to excessive sweating. Doctors treat it with the same methods as malaria, using herbs like ginseng and atractylodes to reinforce it. After taking the medicine, patients feel more restless and uncomfortable, with confusion and loss of consciousness. In hot weather with steamy air, the symptoms are relieved only after rain. The miasma disease is caused by heat and steam, and the symptoms are relieved with sweating. Atractylodes stops sweating, while huang bai also stops sweating and closes the pores, preventing sweat from escaping. Without sweating, the heat cannot be released, leading to more restlessness and confusion. Therefore, atractylodes and huang bai should not be used abruptly. Some say that atractylodes and huang bai are astringent and not suitable for use. However, cinnamon is not a sweat-inducing medicine. Why is it used? I say that cinnamon can stop sweating, and the Materia Medica says it warms the middle-jiao. It also says that what is rooted in the earth is close to the earth. Cinnamon is used to tonify the kidneys, so its nature can also lead the yang qi of the upper jiao to the kidney channel. Therefore, it can be used. Some say that you mentioned that the weather is hot and humid, and it is relieved after rain. The miasma disease is caused by heat and steam, and it is relieved with sweating. Now the patient has excessive sweating, which should be a sign of recovery from the miasma. Why is it not cured? I say that this excessive sweating only slightly relieves the heat and闷 for a short time. If one wants to recover, one must warm the middle-jiao and reinforce the lower jiao, harmonize the healthy qi, and balance the yin and yang, so that the nutrient and defensive energies are harmonized, and the evil has no place to settle. Naturally, a profuse sweat will come out like rain from head to toe, everywhere. After a heavy sweat, the whole body becomes cold, only the breath from the mouth is slightly warm. Such symptoms will not appear, and the miasma heat will not return. At this time, one should be cautious in adjusting one's diet and lifestyle. After a hundred days, the original qi can be restored.

3. What are the typical symptoms of malaria

  1. Commonly found in the Lingnan and Hainan Islands, most common in summer and autumn.

  2. Sudden chills, persistent high fever, restlessness, or severe headache, vomiting, stiff neck, coma, or tetany, or limb coldness, convulsions, or yellowing of the body and eyes, urine dark as soy sauce.

  3. White blood cells are normal or decreased, macrophages increased. Anemia. Malaria parasites can be found in blood smears.

  4. Increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure, slightly increased white blood cell count, mild increase in protein, normal sugar and chloride.

  5. Bone marrow puncture smear can detect malaria parasites.

4. How to prevent malaria

  1. Qidao Decoction

The treatment of external wind-cold, internal injury of cold, or qi deficiency of the five internal organs, the victory of Yin and Yang, causing malaria. There is more cold than heat, or only cold without heat.

Dafuling (one piece, roasted over charcoal, soaked in salt, roasted again, soaked again seven times, skin and umbilicus removed, sliced), use seven slices of ginger and seven dates. Boil in water. Take on an empty stomach in the morning before the attack. Still eat a few dates. It is important to avoid certain foods. Cold malaria is caused by cold disease. This formula uses Dafuling to remove cold phlegm and can lead the Yangqi of the upper jiao down to the Yin to achieve the harmony of heaven and earth. It is what Wang Taipu said, to strengthen the fire element to eliminate Yin obstruction. Adding the sweetness of Daizao to warm and invigorate the spleen, the cold phlegm will subside and the malaria will stop.

  2. Four Beasts Drink

The treatment of unregulated anger and overeating, overwork, and the combination of internal and external injuries lead to the victory of Yin and Yang, the aggregation of phlegm and fluid, and the struggle with Weiqi, causing malaria.

Renshen Banxia (soaked in soup seven times), Poria (skin removed), Baizhu, Caoguo (skin removed), Chenpi, Gancao (half of the roasted), Wumei (kernels removed), use seven slices of ginger and seven dates in this powder. Add a little salt. Boil in water and wrap in thick paper, dip in warm water. Simmer slowly until fragrant and well-cooked. Dry in the oven. Take half a liang each time. Boil in clear water. Take three doses before it erupts.

Malaria is caused by the weather, but if the spleen and stomach of a healthy person have strong yuanqi, even if the malaria poison is severe, what harm can it do to the body? Only when one is angry and injured, or overeats and injures the spleen, the yuanqi is not firm, then the malaria poison can attack. As the classics say, where the evil is, there must be deficiency in the qi. This formula uses the sweetness and warmth of Shenfu, Lingzhi, and Gancao to invigorate the spleen and benefit yuanqi. Add Chenpi's acridness to regulate qi. Add the acridness of Banxia to dry dampness and relieve phlegm. Add the acridness of Caoguo to digest food. Add the acid of Wumei to condense qi and produce fluid. Add ginger and dates to invigorate yuanqi. They are all part of the formula for stopping malaria. It is the meaning of a gentleman's full seat and a small man's retreat.

  3. Jiezhong Pill

The treatment of malaria does not matter whether it is cold or hot. It may occur once a day, twice a day, or three times a day.

Changshan (stir-fried with five liang of vinegar seven times), Wumei (forty kernels removed), Binglang (forty kernels), Gancao (three liang), then stir-fried again to a fine powder. Use ginger juice to make rice paste into pills. The size of Wuzi. Before it erupts, take twenty-one pills with good wine, seven times a day. It is very effective. Do not take it when it erupts. After the disease stops, avoid chicken, fish, mutton, and beef. Also avoid noodles, scallions, chives, and all cold fruits and vegetables. Avoid all toxic substances. Avoid wind and cold. Avoid anger and sexual frustration. Malaria and malaria are the same disease but have different names. Malaria has a regular pattern, while malaria is changeable. The method of treating malaria is to interrupt it if it is not interrupted. It is clear that there are regular work and rest times. If it has been interrupted, make it light. Then use this formula. There is no phlegm without malaria. Therefore, Changshan is used to remove phlegm. When affected by cold and heat, the evil qi is mostly between the荣 and Wei meridians and muscles. Changshan can remove the evil qi from the skin pores. Assisted by Binglang, it can remove retained qi and eliminate phlegm. Gancao's sweetness can harmonize the middle qi. With the acid of Wumei, it can consolidate the exterior and exterior Yang. Ginger's acridness can open the stomach and relieve phlegm. When the phlegm is gone, the root of the disease is also gone. The best formula for cutting off malaria is this one.

  4. Seven Treasures Drink

Cures blinding fever malaria once a day, or every other day. Understand the schedule of work and rest. Sometimes this can be intercepted.

Campanula javanica, Areca seed, Citrus reticulata, Tsaoko (peel removed), Pueraria lobata, Licorice, all in equal parts, use wine and water each in one cup. Boil well and cover with cotton. Place under the stars and moon for one night. Take early in the morning. Avoid hot food and drinks after taking. No phlegm, no malaria. This formula uses Campanula javanica to expel phlegm, Areca seed to sink phlegm qi, Tsaoko to warm and remove cold phlegm, Pueraria lobata and Citrus reticulata to promote qi with their acridness. When qi moves, phlegm cannot remain. Licorice to harmonize the stomach and middle jiao. Together, they act as a qi-promoting and phlegm-resolving formula. When phlegm is resolved, the root of malaria is also resolved. It is fitting that blinding fever does not recur. According to the treatment method of blinding fever, it is the most difficult. When fever starts and does not stop, and when the middle jiao is warmed and the lower jiao is solidified, the healthy qi is harmonized after. Understand the schedule of work and rest. Sometimes the healthy qi gradually becomes harmonious, the damp-cold in the lower jiao has been removed. All drugs should not violate cold and coolness. Those who do not vomit or have difficulty defecating can all be used.

  5. Ophiopogon Decoction

Cures blinding fever with clear mind and eyes open. Urination and defecation are normal. Only unable to make a sound and body heat.

Ophiopogon japonicus (heart removed), Panax ginseng, Bai zhu, Chen pi, Chuan xiong, Pinellia, Angelica sinensis, Cinnamon, Prunus mume, Great Aconitum, Licorice, Poria (peel removed), add three slices of ginger on top. Boil in water and adjust to a warm temperature. Take Black God Powder.

Blinding fever with straight gaze, unaware of people, with phlegm sounds belonging to phlegm. Unconsciousness without phlegm sounds can eat and drink, but cannot make a sound. This is due to evil heat boiling the blood, blocking the orifices of the heart and lungs. Therefore, one cannot speak. This formula uses Six Gentlemen to gently expel the evil qi to replenish the spleen and rescue the primordial qi. Ophiopogon japonicus clears the heat in the heart and lungs. Prunus mume generates fluid to retain the exterior Yang. Angelica sinensis and ligusticum chuanxiong disperse the blood in the upper orifices. Blood moves with heat, so Cinnamon and Aconitum are used to promote blood circulation. Moreover, they can lead the Yang of the upper焦 into the Yin. Then adjust the Black God Powder to expel the blood. When the blood is dispersed, the orifices of the heart and lungs open, and sound comes out.

  6. Black God Powder

Cures blinding fever. Black soybeans (two and a half heaping measures, roasted and peeled), Angelica sinensis (two liang), Pollen Typhae (two liang), Dried ginger (two liang), Prepared rehmannia (two liang), Cinnamon (two liang, peel removed), White peony root (half qian, stir-fried with wine), Licorice (half qian). Grind into powder and take two qian each time. Take with Decoction of Ophiopogon japonicus. The heat of the blinding fever is specifically focused on the heart and lungs. If the heat is severe, it will cause the blood to boil and erupt from the upper orifices, resulting in vomiting and nosebleeds. If it cannot rise to the nose and mouth, it will block the orifices of the heart and lungs, causing blinding fever. This formula uses Pollen Typhae to expel old blood, Peony root and Angelica sinensis to remove old blood and produce new blood, ginger to promote blood circulation, and licorice to harmonize the qi and benefit the blood. They are yin in nature. Prepared rehmannia and black soybeans are northern substances. Combined with various herbs to guide the blood back to its source.

  7. Qingzhou White Pill

Cures blinding fever with upward gaze, locked jaw, phlegm blockage, unconsciousness, incontinence of urine and stool, and also treats severe phlegm in apoplexy.

Arisaema (seven liang), Pinellia (two liang), Belamcanda (two liang), Aconitum (five qian)

The top is in fine powder. Put it in a silk bag. Soak it in well-water. Arrange the ones that have not come out yet. Then knead with hands to remove impurities. Grind again and add it back. Continue until the silk bag is empty. Place it in a porcelain bowl. Expose it to the sun and dew every day, changing the water daily. Stir and clarify. In spring, expose for five days; in summer, three days; in autumn, seven days; in winter, ten days. Remove the water and dry it. Grind it into fine powder and cook with glutinous rice porridge. Make into pills the size of mung beans. Take twenty pills each time. Take with ginger soup.

Miasma with locked mouth, eyes looking upwards, sputum and phlegm blocking, loss of consciousness, incontinence of urine and feces. This is due to the spleen and stomach being affected by cold, the middle qi unable to transport phlegm, leading to phlegm and qi rising to confuse the heart orifices. Therefore, the patient becomes unconscious and cannot speak. Phlegm originates from dampness, Banxia and Shengnanxing can dry dampness, phlegm sticking to cold, Baifuzi's warmth, and Shengchuanwu's acrid and hot nature can dispel cold. Administered with ginger decoction, it is the most effective treatment for miasma with phlegm obstruction.

  8, Xingfu Decoction

Treat miasma. Phlegm and sputum rise upwards, causing dizziness and loss of consciousness, with a sound like pulling a saw, mouth locked, staring straight ahead, incontinence of urine and feces.

Shengnanxing (1 liang), Shengfuzi (1 liang), Muxiang (5 qian). Take 4 qian each time, with nine slices of ginger. Boil in water and take it warm.

Miasma has phlegm and sputum rising upwards, with a sound like pulling a saw. If it is accompanied by other symptoms, it is all due to phlegm. This is because the spleen and stomach are affected by cold, the middle qi is deficient and cold, and cannot transport phlegm. Therefore, Shengnanxing is used for its drying effect to expel phlegm, Fuzi is used for its acrid and hot nature to warm the middle-jiao, and Muxiang is used for its acrid nature to promote the flow of qi. When qi flows, phlegm also flows. In treating phlegm, I often use the method of promoting qi. For severe cases, it is used alone, or added with Erchen Decoction. For those with internal deficiency, double the amount of Renshen and add Chenxiang. This has been effective many times.

  9, San Sheng Drink

Treat miasma. For those with severe symptoms as described previously, and treat miasma post-stroke phlegm syndrome.

Shengnanxing (1 liang), Shengfuzi (5 qian), Shengchuanwu (5 qian), Muxiang (2.5 qian). Take 5 qian each time, with ten slices of ginger. Boil in water and take it warm. For those with deficient vital energy, add 5 qian of Renshen.

Decoct this formula. It is the previous formula with the addition of Chuanwu. Because the coldness in the spleen and stomach is very severe, it is added. If the vital energy is deficient, add Renshen to replenish the vital energy and resolve phlegm, which has the wonderful effect of reviving the dead.

  10, Zhengshe Powder

Treat miasma where the tongue root is rigid and speech is not possible.

Scorpion tail (2.5 qian, detoxified), Fushen (1 liang, slightly fried, peel off the bark and wood), Mentha (1 liang, dried and roasted).

Grind into powder. Take two qian each time, mixed with warm wine, or rub it on the cheeks as well. It is wonderful for miasma where the tongue root is rigid and speech is not possible. This is due to miasma heat entering the heart and spleen meridians. The collateral pulse of the heart is connected to the tongue root, and the pulse of the spleen connects to the tongue root. The formula uses Fushen to calm the heart and benefit the spleen. Mentha can dispel wind-heat, and scorpion tail can dispel wind-phlegm. When wind-heat is dispelled, the heart and spleen become clear, and the rigidity of the tongue disappears.

  11, Bupleurum Powder

Treat miasma. After fourteen days, the cold and heat persist, not periodic, with a wiry and rapid pulse.

Bupleurum (1 liang, remove the stem), Banxia (5 qian, soaked in decoction), Guixin (5 qian, peel off), Baiwei (5 qian, fried and cooked), Gancao (3 qian).

Administer the above decoction. Use seven slices of ginger, one date, and boil in water until it is warm, then take it. Once the cold and heat subside, stop taking this medicine.

The disease of miasma has lasted for fourteen days. It has passed the critical period. Although the illness has not been cured, the vital energy has slightly recovered. Moreover, considering the pulse, it is not periodic and is wiry and rapid. This is the sign of the pulse being wiry and rapid with much heat, which is the characteristic of malaria. Moreover, the pulse being wiry and rapid with alternating cold and heat indicates that the evil is in the half-extraneous and half-interior. The Stomach channel of the Lesser Yang is responsible for it. Therefore, Bupleurum is used as the principal herb, being a herb of this channel. Wood is withered with cinnamon, so it is used to disperse the evil in the Lesser Yang. The acridness of Banxia and Shengjiang can disperse the evil, and also have the effect of drying dampness and resolving phlegm. The acridness of Baiwei, being a bitter herb, can treat the root of miasma. The sweetness of Daizao and Gancao, being sweet herbs, can nourish the spleen. The combination of bitter and sweet (Jiaji transforming into Earth) is a wonderful method to nourish the spleen. This formula was established by Li Dai Zhi to treat miasma, strengthen the spleen, and resolve phlegm to expel the evil heat in the half-extraneous and half-interior. It uses Guixin as an assistant to Bupleurum to prevent Bupleurum's coldness from causing harm. It is not possible to discuss this with someone who is not skilled in using herbs.

  12, Shaoguo Drink

Treating miasma malaria with headache, body pain, cold and heat, floating and tense pulse.

Southeast is a land of fish and salt, and there are many sudden strong winds. For wind malaria, use Shaoguo drink. This formula uses Chuanxiong, Qingpi, Baizhi, to disperse wind evil. Liangjiang, Suyu, to disperse cold and heat. Now with cough and phlegm, floating and tight pulse, headache, body pain, aversion to cold wind, affected by piercing cold wind. It is suitable for Shaoguo drink. Because of eating raw and cold, fatty and greasy food, phlegm is produced in the middle energizer, vomiting and regurgitation, leading to food malaria. Not to be taken in large quantities. For internal stasis and jaundice, use Yinchen Decoction. Adding Xunsha can also treat hidden heat and restlessness. Mao Chongfu, because of his mother's illness, felt a sense of filial piety to the heavens and earth, dreamed of this prescription, which can be called a divine prescription. But Wuling San should not use guizhi, just like Xiaochaihu should not use ginseng. Biaojian Wan should use Ganjiang, etc. It is desired that the rigid and soft complement each other, also with the meaning of fighting and defending. Therefore, the book of prescriptions says that Wuling San should not use guizhi or aged ones.
