Balanoposthitis refers to the inflammation of the inner plate of the prepuce and the glans penis. A type of lipid substance secreted in the normal prepuce cavity can accumulate into smegma and irritate the prepuce and glans penis, causing balanoposthitis when there is phimosis or phimosis. Balanoposthitis is more common in adolescents and children. It often occurs due to phimosis, smegma, and the accumulation of dirt inside the prepuce without attention to local hygiene, leading to the onset of the disease after bacterial infection.
In the early stages of the disease, mild cases may only show redness of the glans penis and the inner plate of the prepuce, accompanied by an itching sensation. Severe cases may present with pain and tenderness; in the later stage, superficial ulcers may occur inside the prepuce, with yellow or cheesy discharge, often with an unpleasant odor; local redness and swelling are significant, which may affect urination and cause pain during urination.
Balanoposthitis is completely preventable. Paying attention to developing good hygiene habits, such as circumcision for those with phimosis, can have a good preventive effect.
