1. What are the causes of vulvar neurofibroma

  1. Etiology

Whether vulvar neurofibroma originates from the neural sheath of the ectoderm or the neural sheath of the mesoderm is controversial, and it may tend to originate from the Schwann cells of the ectoderm.

  2. Pathogenesis

The tumor mass is located in the dermis, often invading the subcutaneous adipose tissue, and the tumor can be solitary or multiple, generally

2. What complications can vulvar neurofibroma easily lead to

Vulvar neurofibroma complications: Larger fibroids often have ulcers, bleeding, and exudation on the surface, and secondary infection can occur after the tumor surface breaks down.

  Secondly, the complications of neurofibroma:

  1. When the tumor invades the skeletal system, it can cause fractures, dislocations, scoliosis, and complications such as congenital genu valgum and congenital clavicle pseudoarthrosis. Compression of the peroneal nerve by the tumor can cause foot drop and epilepsy.

  2. When the tumor invades the central nervous system, there may be epilepsy-like seizures, and attention should be paid to prevent trauma.

  3. Neurofibroma can sometimes break down and bleed spontaneously, or there may be massive bleeding within the tumor, which can cause shock in severe cases.

  4. Large tumors on the limbs can often break down, leading to infection, suppuration, and even amputation.

  5. Pulmonary damage: A few patients may develop diffuse interstitial pneumonia.

  6. Malignant skin neurofibroma can occasionally develop into neurofibrosarcoma and malignant neurilemmoma. There are also reports of concurrent Wilms tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, and chronic myeloid leukemia.

3. What are the typical symptoms of vulvar neurofibroma

Vulvar neurofibroma generally has no symptoms, grows slowly, rarely malignant, but the tumor can significantly increase during pregnancy. When the tumor is large, there may be坠痛不适,it can occur in any tissue, often occurs in the labia, solitary, small tumor, soft texture, often pedunculated, with pigmented spots on the surface, the tumor is significantly convex out of the skin surface, forming a spherical or pedunculated hernia-like mass. The tumor can be pressed into the skin with the tip of the finger, and the tumor has obvious elasticity. There are coffee spots on the skin, of different sizes, from grain-sized to huge pendulous tumors, numerous or scattered. Some scholars believe that if there are more than 6 coffee spots with a diameter over 1.5 cm, it can be diagnosed as multiple neurofibromas.

  1. Solitary neurofibroma (solitary neurofibroma): The diameter is about 1 cm, without multiple systemic lesions.

  2. Localized neurofibroma (localized neurofibroma): The characteristic of this disease is that multiple isolated neurofibromas are aggregated together.

This disease is mainly onset in childhood, with a family history, coffee spots, soft pedunculated tumors, and other systemic damage characteristics. It is generally not difficult to diagnose, combined with pathological examination when necessary.
