The bladder is an extraperitoneal organ, adjacent to the pubic symphysis in front, with the retropubic space (retropubic space) in between, also known as the pre-vesical space, filled with loose connective tissue and pudendal venous plexus. Behind the bladder, in males, it is adjacent to the rectum, and in females, it is adjacent to the anterior wall of the uterus and vagina. The space between them is the post-vesical space. In males, there are seminal vesicles, seminal duct ampulla, and other tissues. The bladder is covered by peritoneum above and is adjacent to the intestinal loops. If the intestinal loops and peritoneum bulge into the retropubic space and the post-vesical space, it is called an upper bladder hernia. The hernia that occurs in the retropubic space is also called an anterior upper bladder hernia, and the hernia that occurs in the post-vesical space is called a posterior upper bladder hernia.
