Pearl rash

Pearl rash is a kind of physiological developmental variation in the human body, which is more common in young people with a long prepuce and masturbation habits.

It usually appears as some pearl-like, red, yellow, or white translucent papules arranged in a row or several rows, sometimes encircling the entire coronal sulcus. This disease is not contagious and generally does not require special treatment. Pay attention to rest, maintain local cleanliness and dryness. Those with a long prepuce can actively seek medical advice for prepuce circumcision to reduce the chance of infection. Comprehensive observation is necessary. If there are any abnormal conditions, it is important to actively seek medical treatment, clarify the cause, and treat according to the symptoms.

1. What are the causes of pearl rash

The etiology and incidence of penile pearl-like papules have not been clearly understood. Some scholars believe that this condition belongs to an abnormality of physiological development. Some scholars also believe it is related to phimosis, and surveys have found that the incidence of penile pearl-like papules in young men with phimosis is significantly higher than that in those with normal foreskin. Some scholars also believe that the disease may be related to HPV infection, but Ferenczy et al. and Zhang Kaijin et al. detected HPV in the lesion tissue, but no HPV was found. The authors believe that the patient's phimosis, poor local hygiene, the long-term stimulation of corona sulcus secretions and dirt, or other factors such as infection may be the direct cause of this disease. If the patient has a need for treatment, it can be treated through laser surgery, cryotherapy, or medication.

2. What complications can pearl rash easily lead to

Although pearl rash is benign and non-communicable, it actually has its drawbacks. Pearl rash generally grows more on the corona sulcus and frenulum. Ignoring the appearance, pearl rash is extremely sensitive. Generally, pearl rash patients have a high incidence of premature ejaculation up to 80%, and pearl rash patients have a deep understanding of this.

3. What are the typical symptoms of pearl rash

Penile pearl-like papules are more common in men around 20-30 years old. The lesions mainly occur at the junction of the edge of the glans and the corona sulcus or the frenulum. The lesions are papules of 1-3mm in size, and the lesions on both sides of the frenulum are larger. The papule tops are round and smooth, with some papules presenting as hair-like or filamentous. The papules are usually not fused, arranged in a row or multiple rows, and are prominent on the dorsal side of the glans, which can partially or completely encircle the glans. The color of the lesions is mostly pearl-like white, with a few being pale red, skin-colored, and some may appear with mild redness and swelling. There is no tenderness, no ulceration, and the patients have no自觉 symptoms.

The key points for differential diagnosis between penile pearl-like papules and condyloma acuminatum lie in the fact that the former is limited to the edge of the glans, with a large number of lesions, which are pearl-like white papules with a smooth surface. The lesions do not increase in size with the extension of the course of the disease, and the acetic acid test is negative. While the latter is not limited to the edge of the glans, is mostly solitary and scattered, with larger lesions, an irregular surface, and often呈 cauliflower-like, gradually increasing in size with the extension of the course of the disease, the acetic acid test is positive, and the histopathological examination shows empty cells.

4. How to prevent pearl rash

Keep the perineum clean and dry. The glans of the penis is a frequent site of disease. If men do not pay attention to personal hygiene, bacteria may take advantage of the opportunity to enter and cause symptoms of balanitis.

Two, keep clean and avoid unclean sexual life.

Three, if the wife has gynecological inflammation, it is best to stop sexual life to avoid infection through sexual life and trigger balanoposthitis.

Four, quit smoking and drinking, eat less spicy food, pay attention to personal hygiene.

5. What laboratory tests are needed for pearl rash

Penile pearl-like papules are common in men around 20-30 years old. The lesions mainly occur at the junction of the edge of the glans and the corona groove or the frenulum. According to typical clinical manifestations, it is not difficult to diagnose, and usually no further examination is needed.

6. Dietary taboos for pearl rash patients

Pay attention to light diet in daily life, eat less cold and raw foods, and eat less spicy, fishy foods.

  1. Fresh vegetables and fruits cannot be missing: Fresh vegetables and fruits contain a large amount of vitamins and minerals, which can improve tissue oxidation, increase blood circulation, and enhance the body's immunity.

  2. Ensure sufficient protein: Eat more foods rich in protein, as adequate protein can maintain the balance of all nutrients in the body, enhance immunity, protect cells, and can also emulsify fats and promote blood circulation.

7. Conventional methods for treating pearl rash in Western medicine

  (1) Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a high-temperature treatment with a temperature of more than 700°C. It mainly carbonizes and crusts the pearl rash tissue, and after the scab falls off, the wound is covered with new squamous epithelium. The treatment of pearl rash usually uses a carbon dioxide laser, with an infrared light wavelength of 10.6μm. The preparation before treatment is the same as that of an electric iron. Its advantages, in addition to the thermal effect, include pressure, photochemical, and electromagnetic field effects, so it has anti-inflammatory (stimulating the body to produce a strong defensive immune function), analgesic (reducing tissue edema and reducing chemical and mechanical stimulation to nerve endings), and promotes tissue repair (enhancing the synthetic metabolic function of epithelial cells, promoting epithelial proliferation, and accelerating wound repair), so the treatment time is short and the cure rate is high.

  (2) Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a super low-temperature treatment with liquid nitrogen as the refrigerant, at a temperature of -196°C. During treatment, an appropriate probe is selected according to the condition of pearl rash. To improve the efficacy, the freeze-thaw-freeze method can be used, that is, freezing for 1 minute, re-warming for 3 minutes, and then freezing for another 1 minute. Its advantage is the simplicity of operation.
