Crossed ectopic kidney with or without fusion

The kidney is called crossed ectopic kidney when it is located in the renal fossa on the opposite side. More than 90% of crossed ectopic kidneys are fused with their normal contralateral kidneys, and are most commonly found in horseshoe kidney deformities. The concept of abnormal fusion kidney was first proposed by Wilmer in 1938, and was expanded by McDonald in 1957, including crossed ectopic kidney with fusion or crossed ectopic kidney without fusion.

1. What are the causes of the disease of crossed ectopic kidney with or without fusion

The exact cause of the occurrence of crossed ectopic kidney with or without fusion is not yet clear. The disease may be caused by an abnormality in the umbilical artery, which produces a pressure that obstructs the migration of the kidney towards the head side, thus turning to the opposite side with less resistance.

2. What complications can be easily caused by crossed ectopic kidney with or without fusion

Patients with crossed ectopic kidney with or without fusion are mostly asymptomatic. Complications of crossed ectopic kidney with or without fusion include pyelonephritis, hydronephrosis, pyonephrosis, kidney stones, tuberculosis, and kidney tumors, etc.

3. What are the typical symptoms of crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion

Most patients with crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion are asymptomatic. If symptoms occur, they often occur in middle age, including vague lower abdominal pain, pyuria, hematuria, and urinary tract infections. Abnormal renal position and ectopic vessels can cause obstruction, leading to hydronephrosis and calculus formation. Some patients may have asymptomatic abdominal masses. When encountering active abdominal masses in the lower abdomen in clinical practice, one should think of the possibility of ectopic kidney.

4. How to prevent crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion

The exact cause of the renal crossing ectopia in crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion is still unclear. There is currently no effective preventive measure for crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion. Early detection and early diagnosis are the key to the prevention and treatment of the disease.

5. What laboratory tests are needed for crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion

Crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion can be diagnosed by intravenous urography. The bladder and ureteral reflux rate of this disease is very high, so voiding cystourethrogram is very necessary. And renal radionuclide scanning can understand renal function and obstruction. Because of other reasons, B-ultrasound and radionuclide scanning have been found more asymptomatic cases in recent years, and renal tomography can be used to determine renal contour. Because renal vessels are usually malformed, renal arteriography is needed before surgery.

6. Dietary taboos for patients with crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion

Patients with crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion should eat light and easily digestible foods. Eat more fresh vegetables and a moderate amount of fruit, and drink water appropriately. Pay attention to a balanced diet. Patients should avoid overeating and eating unclean food. Avoid seafood, beef, mutton, spicy and刺激性 foods. Avoid tonics, herbal remedies, and foods that are easy to cause internal heat, such as chili, lychee, chocolate, etc.

7. Conventional methods of Western medicine for the treatment of crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion

Most patients with crossing ectopic kidney with or without fusion have a good prognosis. For those with complications,对症 treatment should be given. If an ectopic kidney is found, it should be determined whether surgical treatment is possible according to the specific situation, and the ectopic kidney should be considered for removal if necessary.
