Pregnancy Fever

  Pregnancy fever is equivalent to missed abortion and late-term fetal death in western medicine. Fetal death not descending is one of the common clinical diseases. After diagnosis, it should be treated promptly. Prolonged retention of the dead fetus in the uterine cavity can easily lead to coagulation dysfunction, resulting in disseminated intravascular coagulation, which can threaten the life of the pregnant woman.

1. What are the causes of pregnancy fever?

  The mechanism of fetal death not descending is mainly due to both deficiency and excess. Deficiency is characterized by weakness of Qi and blood, with insufficient power to expel the fetus; excess is due to the blockage of blood stasis and dampness, hindering the expulsion of the fetus. Common types include weakness of Qi and blood, blood stasis blocking, and dampness blocking Qi flow.

  1. Weakness of Qi and Blood:Pregnant women are inherently weak, with insufficient Qi and blood,空虚的冲任,the fetus loses the nourishment of Qi and blood, leading to fetal death in the uterus; due to Qi deficiency and poor transportation, blood deficiency and insufficient nourishment, the dead fetus is difficult to be delivered, thus causing the fetus to remain stuck and not descending.

  2. Blood stasis blocking:Trauma during pregnancy, or cold blood stasis, blocking the Chong and Ren channels, damaging the primordial fetus, leading to fetal death in the uterus; due to the internal blockage of blood stasis, the birth canal is not favorable, hindering the fetus from being expelled, thus the fetus remains stuck and does not descend.

  3. Dampness blocking Qi flow:Due to the deficiency of the spleen and the insufficiency of the source of transformation, the fetus loses nourishment after pregnancy, leading to fetal death in the uterus; due to the dysfunction of the spleen in transportation and transformation, dampness and turbidity are retained internally, blocking the uterine vessels, and obstructing the flow of Qi, causing the dead fetus to remain stuck and not descending.

2. What complications can pregnancy fever lead to?

  1. Nausea and Vomiting during Pregnancy

  It refers to the symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, chest tightness, even aversion to food, or vomiting immediately after eating that occur in the 1-3 months after women become pregnant.

  2. Narcolepsy

  This disease is characterized by irresistible short-term sleep attacks and is a syndrome with unclear etiology. Its features include abnormal sleep tendencies, including excessive daytime sleepiness, restless sleep at night, and pathological REM sleep. It usually starts in childhood or adolescence, with similar incidence rates in males and females. Some patients may have a history of encephalitis or craniocerebral trauma. The pathogenesis is not yet clear and may be related to the dysfunction of the ascending activating system of the brainstem reticular formation or the hyperactivity of the pontine lateral reticular nucleus. Most patients have other symptoms such as cataplexy, sleep paralysis, and sleep hallucinations, collectively known as the tetrad of narcolepsy.

3. What are the typical symptoms of pregnancy fever

  1. Main symptoms:For a dead fetus that cannot be expelled, there are symptoms such as abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding with purple dark clots, foul smell, dark blue face, dark purple tongue, and deep and涩 pulse.

  2. Syndrome analysis:Blood stasis blocks the passage of the fetus, causing the fetus to die without being expelled; blood stasis blocks the Chong and Ren meridians, causing pain when not flowing smoothly; blood stasis internally blocks, causing blood not to return to its channels and to leak outwards, resulting in vaginal bleeding with purple dark color or mixed with blood clots; if the fetus dies due to blood stasis for a long time, foul smell rises due to stagnant Qi; the face is dark blue, the tongue is dark purple, and the pulse is deep and涩,are signs of dead fetus and blood stasis.

4. How to prevent pregnancy fever

  Prevention:

  1. The treatment of pregnancy fever should be urgent to expel the dead fetus to avoid affecting the safety of the pregnant woman. However, before expelling the fetus, a diagnosis should be made on whether the fetus is alive or dead to avoid errors. Generally, if the fetus dies in the abdomen during pregnancy, the pregnant woman may feel the fetus stop moving, the abdomen no longer continues to grow, but slightly shrink, sometimes vaginal bleeding, or流出赤豆汁样液体,口出恶臭,脉涩等症。If the fetus suddenly dies during labor, in addition to the fetus stopping moving, it is often accompanied by acute abdominal pain, shortness of breath, and other symptoms. In clinical practice, it is not enough to rely solely on symptoms and pulse to diagnose a dead fetus; it is necessary to combine modern medical examination methods such as urine pregnancy tests and ultrasound examinations.

  2. For pregnancy fever, it is necessary to use medicine cautiously according to the strength of the mother, and it is not advisable to use drastic treatments that damage the health of the pregnant woman. If the pregnant woman herself is weak in Qi and blood, it is advisable to first consolidate the original foundation, nourish Qi and blood, and then proceed with the abortion.

5. What laboratory tests are needed for pregnancy fever

  In addition to clinical manifestations, the diagnostic methods for pregnancy fever are as follows:

     1. Gynecological examination;

  2. Obstetric ultrasound;

  3. Obstetric examination;

  4. Fetal development examination;

  5. Systematic fetal ultrasound examination.

6. Dietary taboos for patients with pregnancy fever

  I. Food suitable for abortion

  1. Firstly, it is necessary to ensure the supply of high-quality protein, adequate vitamins and inorganic salts, especially to supplement sufficient iron to prevent anemia.

  2. Food selection should not only be nutritious but also easy to digest and absorb. Fresh fish, tender chicken, eggs, animal liver, animal blood, lean meat, soy products, milk, jujube, lotus seeds, fresh fruits and vegetables can be provided.

  3, Due to the weakness of the body, sweating often occurs, so it is best to replenish fluids in small amounts and multiple times. A lot of water-soluble vitamins are excreted in sweat, especially vitamin C, vitamin B1, and vitamin B2. Therefore, it is recommended to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. This also helps prevent constipation.

  4, Nourishing Blood and Qi: When it comes to nourishing Qi and blood, there are many traditional dietetic methods worth learning from. Herbs like Astragalus, Eajiao, brown sugar, red dates, glutinous rice, long-grain rice, old chicken, ginger, spinach, and umeboshi all have remarkable effects of hemostasis, Qi and blood tonification. In addition, pork, animal liver, and blood tofu also have the effect of iron supplementation and blood production. At the same time, consuming sufficient vitamin C can increase the efficiency of iron absorption and utilization. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the balance of meat and vegetables in diet. Traditional medicine believes that the weakness, pallor, lumbar pain, and easy fatigue often seen after artificial abortion are due to the injury of both Qi and blood. Indeed, abortion can lead to bleeding, while pain and tension can injure Qi. As people get older, they are more sensitive to the injury caused by abortion, and often need a longer time for the double tonification of Qi and blood.

  Two, Foods to Avoid After Abortion

  1, Do not eat or eat less greasy and cold foods, and it is not suitable to eat radishes, hawthorn, bitter melon, tangerines, and other foods with properties of regulating Qi, activating blood, and being cold.
